About HyperFrames
HyperFrames is an open-source toolkit from HeyGen for composing video in code. Compositions are written in HTML, CSS and JavaScript — the web stack, not a timeline — so an agent can edit them the way it edits anything else. It ships with a Claude Code skill and is released under Apache 2.0, which makes it a component you build on, not a hosted service.
We track it closely, though it is not in daily rotation. We list it as the option when video composition needs to be programmable and agent-driven: templated cuts, data-driven variants, anything where a human dragging clips is the bottleneck. It interests us because the authoring format is one a model already knows, so the agent writes code rather than driving a GUI. It is also early: treat it as a toolkit you will maintain yourself.
Remotion is the mature version of this idea in React and the first thing to compare against — read its licence terms before commercial use. Shotstack and Creatomate are the picks when you would rather call a hosted rendering API than operate one. FFmpeg still wins for deterministic transformations that need no layout engine. HyperFrames is right when an agent should author compositions and a permissive licence matters; it is the wrong call for a designer working by hand, who wants a timeline.
