About Anam
Anam is an API for real-time interactive AI avatars — photorealistic video agents you talk to rather than watch. It offers very low latency, support for a wide range of languages, tool calling, knowledge retrieval and SDK integrations, which places it in the applications tier rather than the content tier: sales, support, tutoring and training.
We track it; it is not in our daily rotation. We list it as the option for products that genuinely need a synthetic face in a live loop rather than a pre-rendered clip — a demo agent, guided onboarding, a language drill. The engineering cost is real: latency budgets, interruption handling, fallbacks for when the agent has nothing useful to say. If you ship one, tell people plainly they are talking to an AI, and make sure any likeness is licensed for it.
HeyGen is the obvious comparison for streaming avatars, with a larger ecosystem around it. Tavus is the other conversational-video API worth quoting. D-ID has been in talking-head video the longest. Soul Machines aims the same idea at enterprise deployments. If the face adds nothing, a voice agent from ElevenLabs will be simpler and cheaper. Anam is right when live visual presence is the product; it is the wrong call for anything you could pre-render, where async video wins on cost and control.
