Google Dataset Search
Search engine for datasets across the web, making it easy to find datasets stored anywhere online. Discover publicly available datasets from government agencies, research institutions, and other organizations.
About Google Dataset Search
Google Dataset Search is a search engine for datasets. It indexes datasets published across the web — government agencies, research institutions and other organisations — and points you at where they live rather than hosting them itself. It solves the first problem in any data project: finding out whether the data you need already exists before you spend a month building it.
We track it and reach for it at the start of a question, never inside a pipeline. We list it as the discovery layer — the first place to check when we need to know whether a public dataset exists at all. It is not wired into any workflow here, because it does not do anything after the finding.
Kaggle is the better starting point when you want a dataset other people have already picked over. Hugging Face is where to go if the next step is training and you want something immediately loadable. OpenML fits when you need a benchmark with a defined evaluation protocol. Official portals — data.gov, Eurostat, national statistics offices — are right when provenance matters more than convenience. Zenodo covers published academic data. Google Dataset Search is the wrong tool if you want data in your hands in ten minutes; it finds, it does not deliver. Read the licence at the source before you use anything it surfaces.
