About Slack
Slack is the studio's messaging layer — channels, threads, huddles for quick calls, and the integration surface that lets deploys, alerts, and tickets land where the conversation already is.
We use it daily. The integrations are what make it more than a chat app: a channel where CI failures, error alerts, and pull requests arrive alongside the discussion about them removes a whole category of context switching.
Microsoft Teams wins on price for organisations already paying for Microsoft 365, and loses on developer integrations and general feel. Discord is free, excellent at voice, and increasingly used by technical teams and communities. Mattermost and Zulip are the self-hosted options, and Zulip's threading model is genuinely better than Slack's for asynchronous work across time zones. The strongest argument against Slack is cost per seat as a team grows; the strongest argument for it is that the integration ecosystem is still unmatched.
