About X Developer Console
The X Developer Console is the official developer portal for the X (formerly Twitter) API. You create and manage apps, rotate API keys, set OAuth 2.0 callback URLs, configure webhooks and browse the v2 endpoints. Access is tiered, and your tier determines which endpoints you can call for posting, reading, search and streaming. It is the gate you pass through to talk to the platform programmatically.
It is in active use here. It is where the credentials behind our posting automation live: registering the app, setting redirect URIs, rotating keys when they expire, and confirming which endpoints our access level covers before we write code against them.
There is no substitute for the console if you need direct API access — the alternatives sit one layer above it. Postproxy and Ayrshare give you a unified publishing API so you never handle X's OAuth flow yourself. Buffer, Hootsuite and Typefully cover scheduled posting through a UI with no code, and for most teams that is the right answer. Going direct is worth it when you need search, streaming or reply handling a wrapper does not expose. One caution: tiers, rate limits and terms here change with little notice. Read the current developer agreement and confirm your tier covers what you need before you build on it.
