Descript
All-in-one video and audio editing platform with AI-powered transcription, screen recording, collaborative editing, and text-based video editing.
About Descript
Descript edits video and audio by editing text. It transcribes the recording, and deleting a sentence in the transcript removes it from the timeline. Filler-word removal, studio sound cleanup, and screen recording are built in, and its voice cloning can patch a line without re-recording.
We track it for anything talking-head shaped — interviews, tutorials, podcasts. For that format the transcript-first model is not a gimmick: cutting a rambling answer down to its useful thirty seconds takes about as long as reading it.
CapCut is faster for short-form social edits with lots of visual effects, and worse for long spoken content. Riverside is the better recording tool if the problem is capturing remote interviews at quality rather than editing them afterwards. Premiere Pro has its own text-based editing now, which narrows Descript's lead if you're already in Adobe's ecosystem. Resolve remains the answer for serious colour and finishing work. Pick Descript when the words are the content; pick a timeline editor when the pictures are.
