Ownership records start as a spreadsheet and stay one right up until they are wrong — a grant nobody vested, a SAFE nobody modelled, a conversion nobody checked — and by then the error is legal rather than clerical.

Carta is the default and the broadest, and it is what most investors expect to be shown. AngelList makes sense if your fundraising already runs through their stack. Ledgy is a common European choice. LTSE Equity is a reasonable lighter alternative. A spreadsheet your lawyer reviews is still legitimate while the cap table is genuinely simple. Pulley is worth the switch if token cap tables need to sit alongside equity, or if you want fundraise modelling to be first-class rather than an export. It is the wrong call for a two-founder company with no grants outstanding.
